Amazon Seller Services and Amazon Transport Service Merger

Amazon Seller Services and Amazon Transport Services are poised for a merger, as indicated by two sources close to the situation, with details reported by Startup Superb.

The e-commerce segment has arranged a meeting with its unsecured creditors on April 14, based on the document reviewed by Startup Superb.

According to the document, Amazon Seller Services is designated as the transferee, while Amazon Transport Services will act as the transferor. The document also mentions that PwC, the appointed registered valuer, will assess the share exchange ratio between the two companies.

Amazon Seller Services commenced operations in India in 2013, marking Amazon’s expansion into the Indian e-commerce arena. It functions as the marketplace division of Amazon India, allowing third-party sellers to list and sell their offerings.

Conversely, Amazon Transport Services (ATS) began operating in India in 2015 as Amazon’s logistics branch. Its primary focus lies in transportation, delivery, and supply chain management, all aimed at bolstering Amazon’s e-commerce operations.

Up to this point, both entities have functioned independently, enhancing Amazon’s e-commerce activities in India. Amazon Corporate Holdings Pvt. Ltd. is their direct parent company, while Amazon.com, Inc. (USA) serves as the overarching holding entity.

Amazon did not respond to inquiries made on March 11 prior to the publication of this report.

Recently, Amazon opted to discontinue its refurbished platform Renewed for external sellers, citing growing challenges as the reason. Startup Superb was the first to report on this development.
