Temple Acquires Longevous to Enhance Longevity Medicine

Temple, a healthtech startup headed by Deepinder Goyal, has successfully acquired Longevous, a London-based practice focused on evidence-based longevity medicine. This move aims to bolster Temple’s clinical and scientific capabilities in preparation for its upcoming launch.

Leadership from Longevous Joining Temple

The acquisition will see Longevous’ founders, Dr Robert Mohr and Dr Avi Roy, along with their team, integrate into Temple on a full-time basis, as announced by Goyal in a post on X. Dr Mohr will take on the role of Chief Medical Officer. He is a board-certified physician with nearly two decades of clinical experience, having transitioned from emergency medicine to the field of longevity medicine. His focus areas include preventive and precision medicine.

Dr Avi Roy’s Role

Dr Roy, an Oxford-trained biomedical scientist, will take the position of Head of Science at Temple. His career encompasses a blend of longevity science and business, and he is known for co-founding Founders Health and UDA. Previously, he held the role of research fellow at the Centre for the Advancement of Sustainable Medical Innovation at the University of Oxford.

Background of the Acquisition

According to Goyal, the connection with Mohr and Roy began at a dinner event in London a few months earlier. Their discussions about longevity science prompted them to experiment with Temple’s offerings.

Hands-on Experience with Temple’s Technology

Over the subsequent two months, both Mohr and Roy used Temple as their everyday wearable, collaborating with the company’s science team to assess its proprietary ‘Entropy’ metric and the data generated by the device. Additionally, they provided critical insights by challenging some of Temple’s assumptions and reviewing the startup’s initial scientific manuscripts prior to submission.

Given their personal investment in the project, Goyal approached them with a proposal to help build Temple full time.

Operational Plans for Longevous

Longevous will continue functioning under the Temple brand, with Mohr and Roy overseeing its current client base.

Temple’s Vision and Future Prospects

Temple represents Goyal’s venture into healthtech, aiming to create wearable devices designed to monitor physiological signals and longevity-related variables. The firm is in the process of developing a novel wearable that is positioned near the temple and features a proprietary metric called Entropy, which purportedly measures real-time energy expenditure.

The launch of this wearable is anticipated within the next year, and Goyal has previously noted that peer-reviewed studies will support its health claims. Notably, Temple has seen its valuation double to $375 million following a secondary share sale in July, in conjunction with the launch of its first employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) liquidity programme. This initiative allows eligible employees the chance to sell a portion of their vested shares, providing liquidity ahead of a potential public listing or other future exit opportunities.
