Accel Launches Eighth Fund to Support Startups in India and Southeast Asia

  • Enterprise AI
  • Consumer services
  • Fintech
  • Manufacturing

In March 2022, Accel announced its seventh fund focused on India, also worth $650 million, aimed at early, seed, and pre-seed stage startups.

According to Accel, the latest fund saw participation from 131 undisclosed investors, underscoring a robust interest in the entrepreneurial landscape of the region.

Investment Focus

Accel intends to channel investments into:

  • Enterprise AI – Supporting startups leveraging India’s robust IT services to deliver automation solutions.
  • Service-as-software – Focusing on AI startups poised to revolutionise the service sector.
  • Consumer Companies – Investing in innovative businesses within the consumer space.
  • Wealth Management Startups – Targeting financial technology firms.
  • Manufacturing Companies – Looking to back advancements in the manufacturing sector.

The total corpus for this new fund matches the amount of Accel’s previous fund, launched in early 2022.

Investment Strategy

Accel’s investment strategy is primarily centred on:

  • Founders creating enterprise AI solutions that utilize India’s rich IT services expertise to deliver automation products.
  • Consumer-oriented businesses, wealth management newcomers, and manufacturing firms.

This approach reflects a well-rounded commitment to cultivating innovation.

Proven Track Record

With more than 16 years of experience in India and Southeast Asia, Accel has collaborated with companies that have transformed industries ranging from e-commerce and SaaS to manufacturing. Notably, the fund has invested significantly in several notable companies, including:

Recent Successes

Recently, the firm achieved a significant return by tendering 10.5 million shares during Swiggy’s IPO, resulting in a staggering 3391% gain based on its initial investment.

Key Initiatives

In recent years, Accel has launched several noteworthy initiatives, including:
