Amazon Now Expands to 100 Cities with a Major Investment

Amazon Now is leading the way in quick commerce, announcing an ambitious expansion plan that will see its services reach 100 cities. This initiative will be supported by more than 1,000 micro-fulfillment centres across India. This latest development follows Amazon’s recent commitment of Rs 2,800 crore aimed at enhancing its operational frameworks and infrastructure throughout the country, part of a larger strategy to invest $35 billion by 2030.

Details of the Expansion

In its drive to broaden its reach, Amazon shared that a segment of this fresh investment will go towards significantly enlarging the footprint of Amazon Now. Currently, the quick commerce service is accessible in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, facilitated by around 300 micro-fulfillment centres. According to Amazon, upcoming expansions will cover numerous metro and non-metro locations including Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Meerut, Mysuru, Panipat, Kochi, Amritsar, Mangaluru, and Visakhapatnam.

Competitive Landscape

In the competitive arena, Flipkart is strategically aiming to have more than 1,500 quick commerce dark stores by 2026. At present, Flipkart operates between 750 and 850 dark stores, particularly focusing on expanding into tier II and tier III markets. Similarly, Blinkit forecasts a growth trajectory that will see it reach 2,100 stores by December 2025, planning to ramp up to 3,000 by March 2027. The rise of Flipkart’s network to over 1,500 stores by 2026 positions it closely alongside Blinkit in terms of market presence.

As of December 2025, Swiggy Instamart operated a total of 1,136 active dark stores, while Zepto had approximately 1,150 stores at the close of that year. This dynamic competition illustrates the growing demand for quick commerce services across India.
