Coratia Technologies Secures Funding for Underwater Robotics Innovation

Deep tech startup Coratia Technologies, a homegrown underwater robotics firm, has successfully raised Rs 5 crore (approximately $563,000) in a funding round led by Piper Serica Angel Fund. The company’s current backers, including MGF Kavachh and Pontaq Ventures, have collectively invested over Rs 17 crore in July 2025 to promote India’s strategic autonomy in underwater and subsea robotics.

Recent Developments in Underwater Robotics

The latest funding follows Coratia’s impressive Rs 66 crore contract awarded by the Indian Navy for its innovative Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (UWROV) called Jalasimha. The funds will be allocated to bolstering in-house research and development, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, upgrading product offerings, and venturing into international markets, according to the company’s press release.

Innovative Solutions for Defence and Industry

Co-founded by Debendra Pradhan and Biswajit Swain, Coratia Technologies operates out of NIT Rourkela and focuses on creating advanced autonomous underwater vehicles for both defence and industrial uses. The company’s key systems include Jalasimha, Jaladuta, Oceanus, and Navya.

The Odisha-based startup has successfully worked on projects with Indian Railways and IOCL Paradip. Recently, Coratia was invited to Brunei Darussalam, one of Southeast Asia’s prominent oil producers, to showcase its robotic systems designed for subsea inspections and the maintenance of offshore energy infrastructure.

Vision for the Future of Underwater Robotics

Debendra Pradhan, the co-founder and CEO of Coratia Technologies, stated that this investment aligns with their ambition to revolutionise underwater robotics and enhance India’s role in the global blue economy. The focus is on creating a global supply chain within India and exporting indigenously developed solutions that cater to both strategic and commercial demands.
