Gramodyam: Empowering Rural Entrepreneurs across India
The focus of Gramodyam is to foster entrepreneurship in rural areas, launched by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The initiative was unveiled by NABARD Chairman Dr. Shaji K V on the 45th Foundation Day of the institution. NSDC will administer the programme under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, collaborating with the Institute for Industrial Development (IID).
Objectives of Gramodyam
Gramodyam’s primary goal is to identify, train, and assist aspiring rural entrepreneurs. This will be achieved through various means including entrepreneurship training, mentorship, business planning, credit facilitation, and establishing market connections. The initiative will employ a hybrid approach, combining digital outreach with on-ground activities in multiple states and union territories.
Training and Support for Participants
Participants in Gramodyam will engage in assessments, counselling, skill training, and mentoring to prepare them for launching their own businesses. During its initial phase, the programme aims to assist about 4,000 rural entrepreneurs over three years.
Access to Credit and Government Schemes
This initiative will also streamline access to credit by aiding participants in generating project reports, applying for loans, and connecting with Regional Rural Banks and other financial institutions. Moreover, it will support entrepreneurs in utilising relevant government schemes and incentives effectively.
Monitoring and Evaluation
According to NABARD and NSDC, Gramodyam will leverage NSDC’s digital platform to monitor participants from the enrolment stage through to enterprise creation. Metrics tracked will include training completion, business establishment, UDYAM and GST registrations, along with overall business performance.
