Mythik: Jason Kothari Launches a New Venture in Eastern Storytelling

Mythik is a fresh tech-first venture founded by Jason Kothari, former CEO of Housing.com, that seeks to present Eastern mythology, folktales, and history to an international audience. As reported by ET, Kothari noted that the prevalence of Western narratives in entertainment opens up avenues for Eastern tales to gain broader visibility.

Kothari has held prominent positions at various notable companies, including the e-commerce platform Snapdeal and the digital payments service FreeCharge. He expressed that the global entertainment scene has primarily been influenced by Hollywood and Western narratives, stating that it is essential now to share Eastern stories—encompassing history, culture, values, and tremendous legends—with the world. He aims to harness advanced technology across all facets of the business to establish a unique tech-first entertainment corporation.

Founding Team and Vision for Mythik

The founding team of Mythik comprises seasoned professionals from entertainment giants such as Disney, Netflix, Amazon Studios, Jio, and Tencent. Although the lineup of projects and their release schedules are not yet disclosed, this venture intends to create engaging storytelling formats that could appeal to a prospective audience of 3.5 billion individuals across Asia and further afield.

Jason Kothari’s Background and Previous Roles

Kothari’s journey with Housing.com commenced in August 2015, and he assumed the role of CEO in November that same year, succeeding the founding CEO, Rahul Yadav. Subsequently, he worked as the Chief Strategy and Investment Officer at Snapdeal and later as CEO of FreeCharge, during which he managed its acquisition by Axis Bank.

His entrepreneurial path was marked by the acquisition of the struggling comic book publisher, Valiant Entertainment, which he successfully revitalised before selling it to DMG Entertainment for $100 million. He was also an executive producer for the film Bloodshot, which featured Vin Diesel in a role inspired by a character from Valiant’s catalogue.

Advisory Roles and Contributions

Beyond his executive career, Kothari is a board member of Emaar India and has previously provided consultancy to various companies, including Balaji Telefilms and Noon.
