Google Cloud Appoints Amit Kumar as Interim Head of India Operations
Google Cloud has announced the appointment of Amit Kumar as the interim leader of its operations in India. This change follows the exit of Sashikumar Sreedharan, who is leaving the organisation to pursue a new opportunity.
The announcement regarding this leadership transition was made by Karan Bajwa, President of Asia Pacific at Google Cloud. Bajwa noted that the company’s momentum in India continues to be robust, primarily driven by advancements in business solutions and artificial intelligence.
Amit Kumar: Interim Leadership Role
Sreedharan had been the Managing Director of Google Cloud India since July 2025. Prior to this position, he served as the Chief Operating Officer for Google Cloud’s Asia Pacific region for approximately two years. His tenure with Google Cloud spans about three years.
Kumar, who has been a part of Google Cloud for over five years, will now assume the leadership role in India on a temporary basis. He is currently the Managing Director for the company’s Digital Natives business in India, where he collaborates with digital-native firms and startups.
Kumar’s Background and Experience
Kumar began his journey with Google Cloud in March 2021 as a Sales Director, dedicating nearly a year to leading the Digital Natives segment. Before joining Google Cloud, he held the position of Country Sales Manager for Enterprise and Education at Apple India. His career also includes a leadership role at IBM and over 13 years at Microsoft, focusing on product management, enterprise sales, and partner relations. Earlier in his career, he was associated with Tata Telecom.
Opportunity in the Cloud and AI Market
In light of this transition, Bajwa expressed that Google Cloud will remain dedicated to leveraging its growth momentum in India, noting that the potential for its customers and partners within the country is greater than ever.
This leadership alteration coincides with India’s rise as a significant market for cloud and AI technologies, with Google Cloud vying for enterprise and startup clientele alongside competitors such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
Sreedharan’s departure occurs amidst unfolding developments in India’s AI landscape. A report from Times of India indicates that he is set to join the homegrown AI unicorn Sarvam AI as President and Chief Business Officer.
Kumar’s interim appointment signifies a leadership presence with extensive experience in enterprise sales, digital native sectors, and technology companies as Google Cloud aims to maintain its growth trajectory in cloud and AI advancements.
