Even Healthcare: Changes and Funding Strategies in Healthtech

Even Healthcare, a healthtech startup, has recently completed consecutive funding rounds this year, yet the newly acquired funds have not prevented the organisation from laying off approximately 350 individuals as it transitions away from its insurance sector towards a hospital-led healthcare approach.

Impact of Layoffs at Even Healthcare

According to sources knowledgeable about the situation, Even Healthcare has reduced its workforce by nearly 30–35%, equating to around 350 jobs. The job reductions have affected several teams as Even seeks to lower its expenses. The company is also reorienting various aspects of its business to allocate resources towards its new hospital-led healthcare model.

Current Position of Even Healthcare

The layoffs occur at a challenging juncture for the Bengaluru-based startup, which is in the process of securing $50 million in investment from existing backer Khosla Ventures. So far, it has garnered $21 million in the initial phase, with the remaining funds anticipated in a later phase. This funding round and its details were reported exclusively by Startup Superb.

Restructuring for Efficiency

Sources indicate that the restructuring is designed to decrease expenses and enhance operational efficiency. Even Healthcare has been investing more deeply in healthcare delivery, shifting away from its initial subscription-based model. The company launched its inaugural hospital in Bengaluru and is aiming to grow its network of facilities.

Financial Performance and Challenges

However, this expansion has resulted in significant cash expenditures. Even’s operational revenues grew to Rs 27.2 crore in FY25, up from Rs 8.3 crore in FY24, while its losses broadened from Rs 72.4 crore to Rs 90.2 crore during the same timeframe.

Funding History and Future Directions

The company obtained $20 million from Lachy Groom and Alpha Wave Global in January 2026, following a previous funding round of $30 million in 2024, accumulating over $70 million in total capital raised by Even Healthcare.

Looking Ahead

The imminent $50 million investment comes merely months after its last round of fundraising. The recent layoffs suggest that Even Healthcare is now aiming to curtail expenditures while preparing for its next financial influx.

The latest restructurings at Even Healthcare highlight the difficulties of establishing a capital-heavy healthcare delivery business while remaining viable with its earlier model’s economics. As the firm evolves its operations, the crucial question remains whether the new strategy can enhance unit economics and forge a more sustainable growth trajectory. The effectiveness of Even’s ability to convert new investor support into a venture that necessitates less capital for each growth phase will be a key factor in its future.
