Kairon Capital: Launching a New Venture Capital Fund

Kairon Capital, a venture capital firm dedicated to consumer-focused investments, has successfully executed the first close of its inaugural fund. This fund aims for a total corpus of Rs 150 crore, supplemented by an additional Rs 50 crore greenshoe option. As of this initial close, Kairon Capital has already secured over 60% of its target corpus.

The investor roster for Kairon Capital consists of consumer startup founders, family offices, and corporate investors. Among the notable backers are founders from firms like Innovist, Plix, Livspace, and XYXX, in addition to contributions from Emami Limited.

Investment Strategy and Portfolio Goals

Kairon Capital intends to construct a focused portfolio comprising approximately 14 to 15 companies. The firm will invest across seed to early Series A stages, with investment amounts ranging from Rs 2 crore to Rs 14 crore. Additionally, capital will be set aside for follow-on funding rounds.

The fund will primarily target early-stage consumer businesses that have demonstrated a product-market fit. Although it maintains a flexible approach regarding categories within consumer sectors, Kairon Capital will give preference to brands with unique products and robust unit economics.

Leadership and Experience

Deepankur Malhotra brings a wealth of experience from investment banking, private equity, and venture capital, having made previous investments in consumer companies like Innovist, FreshToHome, XYXX, and Nat Habit. Moreover, his background includes consumer-focused investments made during his tenure at Amazon.

Kairon Capital is actively deploying funds and is currently in the process of assessing multiple consumer startups. The firm is anticipated to unveil its initial investments in the approaching months.
