Bike Taxi Services in Karnataka: Current Updates

Bike taxi services in Karnataka have been granted permission to continue operating until June 15. This decision was made by the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday.

Details of the Court’s Decision

This recent ruling follows a prior order from the court that mandated a halt to bike taxi services until further notice, issued four weeks earlier. As reported by PTI news agency, the single-judge bench headed by Justice B.M. Shyamaprasad reviewed an interim plea from major companies Uber, Rapido, and Ola. These companies requested continued operation, which the court approved.

Background on the Suspension

The initial suspension was necessitated by the lack of established regulations concerning bike taxi operations within Karnataka. With the current ruling, the court has also tasked the state government with the development of appropriate guidelines within a three-month timeframe.

Comparison with Other States

In contrast, states such as Delhi and Maharashtra have already authorised electric bike taxis, operating under regulated frameworks. It is anticipated that Karnataka will implement similar measures once its new guidelines are established.
