Mesa School Raises Rs 100 Crore in Series A Funding

Bengaluru-based new-age business school Mesa School is set to secure approximately Rs 100 crore in a Series A funding round, as reported by sources familiar with the situation. This funding round is planned to consist of about Rs 84 crore in equity, with the remaining Rs 16 crore provided through venture debt, according to an insider.

The funding round has not yet been finalised. Alongside the main fundraising effort, Mesa co-founder Varun Limaye intends to sell around a 2.9% stake for roughly Rs 3 crore in a secondary transaction. Existing investors are reportedly interested in this secondary offering to increase their ownership stake in the company.

It remains unconfirmed whether Elevation Capital will be involved in this secondary purchase. This planned fundraising comes as Mesa broadens its curriculum in startup leadership, entrepreneurship, product management, and artificial intelligence.

Mesa currently offers three distinct programmes aimed at various learner demographics, including recent graduates and MBA candidates. The company has observed an impressive 2.5X increase in annual revenue and student registrations over the previous year, as noted by sources. A significant aspect of this growth stems from both the expansion of its student base and the variety of programmes available.

Elevation Capital opted not to comment on the matter, and queries sent to Limaye on Tuesday did not receive a response before the publication of this report.

Founded by Ankit Kumar and Limaye, Mesa previously raised about Rs 34 crore ($4 million) in its seed funding round in April 2023, led by Elevation Capital and supported by angel investors such as CRED’s founder Kunal Shah, Meesho co-founder Vidit Aatrey, and Urban Company co-founder Abhiraj Bhal.

The company operates within India’s burgeoning new-age business education sector, competing with institutions like Masters’ Union, Altera Institute, and Scaler. These platforms integrate business education with insights into technology, product development, entrepreneurship, and the startup landscape.

Invact Metaversity, initiated by former Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari and Tanay Pratap, also aimed to merge technology with business education, although its business strategy has since shifted.
