CtrlS Raises Rs 250 Crore for Hyperscale Data Centre Expansion

CtrlS, a leading hyperscale data centre operator, has successfully raised Rs 250 crore. This amount includes Rs 200 crore from Nikhil Kamath, cofounder of Zerodha, and Rs 50 crore from entrepreneur Sreeram Reddy Vanga. The funds will be allocated towards enhancing infrastructure and increasing capacity to meet the rising demand from enterprises and hyperscalers across India, particularly as the demands for AI, cloud, and digital workloads ramp up, as indicated by CtrlS in a press release.

About CtrlS and Its Mission

Founded by Sridhar Pinnapureddy, CtrlS aims to create AI-ready and hyperscale infrastructure that supports the expanding digital economy in India, while also promoting the utilisation of renewable energy and sustainable practices in data centres. CtrlS is engaged in the construction and operation of hyperscale facilities, and has formed partnerships with various enterprises, cloud providers, financial institutions, and government bodies. The company places a strong emphasis on uptime, operational excellence, security, and sustainability.

Current Operations and Capacities

As per CtrlS, the company currently operates 19 data centres situated in nine crucial markets throughout India, possessing over 370 MW of capacity along with 4.4 GW of projects at different phases of development. The hyperscale data centre industry is notably capital intensive, drawing interest from both established infrastructure entities and emerging technology-focused companies seeking growth capital to develop AI-ready and hyperscale campuses.

Recent Developments in the Sector

In recent developments, Yotta Data Services has secured approximately $150 million to advance its own AI and cloud infrastructure, which encompasses funding for a joint venture aimed at establishing hyperscale data centre campuses across India. Additionally, CtrlS has recently obtained Rs 5,500 crore in debt financing for the expansion of an AI-ready data centre in Hyderabad.
