Slice Appoints New Executive and Independent Directors

Slice, a digital and AI-native bank, has announced the appointment of Samir Sawhney as Executive Director and Ramesh Kumar as Independent Director to its board. These appointments have been approved by the slice board and are also sanctioned by the Reserve Bank of India for Sawhney’s role as Executive Director.

Expertise of Samir Sawhney

Samir Sawhney brings an impressive record of over thirty years of banking expertise, specialising in treasury, investment management, and retail banking. He recently held the position of chief executive at RMBS Development Company, an initiative by the National Housing Bank aimed at promoting India’s residential mortgage-backed securities market.

Prior to that, Sawhney dedicated more than 34 years to the State Bank of India, where he took on the role of Chief General Manager for Global Markets and was responsible for the bank’s treasury operations. He also chaired the Foreign Exchange Dealers Association of India (FEDAI).

Ramesh Kumar’s Experience

Ramesh Kumar comes with more than 30 years of experience in banking, financial services, and technology. He spent two decades at ICICI Bank, leading technology strategies and advancing digital banking platforms. His career at the State Bank of India includes steering core banking implementations.

Kumar has previously worked with slice as an advisor during the integration and merger with North East Small Finance Bank. His skills span technology governance, cybersecurity, operational resilience, and digital transformation.

Slice’s Focus on Growth and Technology

Slice has stated that its primary focus will be on growth and responsible underwriting, along with ongoing investments in technology. Post-merger with North East Small Finance Bank, slice is positioned as a full-stack bank, providing a range of services including savings accounts, fixed deposits, UPI, borrowing options, credit cards, and UPI-led bank branches.

Slice enjoys backing from prominent investors such as Tiger Global, Insight Partners, Advent International, Blume Ventures, and Gunosy Capital.
