Traya: Transforming Hair Loss Solutions into a Rs 600 Crore Business
Traya’s journey began with the aim of tackling hair loss and the related insecurities faced by young people in India, evolving into a business valued at nearly Rs 600 crore. Despite significant revenue growth observed in FY26, the seven-year-old haircare startup has reported ongoing losses.
According to consolidated annual financial statements reviewed by Startup Superb, Traya’s revenue from operations rose by 72.6% year-on-year, reaching Rs 585 crore in FY26, up from Rs 339 crore in FY25.
Focused Solutions for Hair Loss
Founded in 2019, Traya concentrates on understanding the root causes of hair loss and offers tailored treatment plans, complemented by consultations with qualified hair coaches and licensed physicians. The sale of personalised hair care kits has been the primary source of the company’s revenue.
In addition, Traya earned Rs 8 crore from investment gains, boosting its total income to Rs 593 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2026, compared to Rs 343 crore in FY25.
Expenditure Breakdown
On the expenditure front, advertising expenses represented the largest share, constituting around 44% of the company’s total costs. Spending on advertising nearly doubled to Rs 275 crore in FY26. Additionally, the procurement of materials rose by 68.7% to Rs 140 crore over the last fiscal year.
Employee and Overhead Costs
Traya allocated Rs 81 crore towards employee benefits in FY26. Legal, transportation, technology, and other administrative expenses contributed to an overall increase of 70.2% in total costs, climbing to Rs 623 crore in FY26 from Rs 366 crore in FY25.
Financial Performance
Although operating revenue grew by 72.6%, the surge in expenses has affected the company’s financial standing. Traya reported a net loss of Rs 29 crore in FY26, a rise from the Rs 23.5 crore loss recorded in FY25.
At the unit level, Traya incurred costs of Rs 1.06 to generate every rupee of operating revenue in FY26. The return on capital employed (ROCE) and EBITDA margin were recorded at -44.7% and -6.19%, respectively. By March 2026, Traya’s total current assets were valued at Rs 174 crore.
Investment and Future Prospects
To date, Traya has raised approximately Rs 96 crore in funding, including a significant Rs 75 crore investment from Xponentia Capital in April 2024. Their investors also include Fireside Ventures, Kae Capital, and Whiteboard Capital. The company is reportedly negotiating to secure an additional Rs 300 crore from Verlinvest.
Market Opportunities
Hair thinning and hair loss are pressing issues, particularly among the youth in India. Factors like water quality, nutritional deficiencies, dietary habits, and insufficient sleep contribute to these concerns. This landscape has allowed for the emergence of various startups focused on hair care, with many brands now offering gummies, serums, and supplements. Traya has successfully established its niche in this expanding market through its personalised treatment approach.
