Uber Discontinues Shuttle Service in Delhi NCR

Uber Discontinues Shuttle Service in Delhi NCR

Uber has ceased its Shuttle service in Delhi NCR, marking the end of its bus-based commuting option in its final operational market in India. The service will be officially terminated after March 27, with users being notified via email that Shuttle rides are no longer available in the city.

Uber Shuttle enabled users to reserve seats on buses with fixed routes, mainly catering to office workers commuting between New Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida. This closure follows similar withdrawals from markets in Mumbai and Hyderabad last year, where low ridership and high operational expenses were significant factors cited for the decision.

The company had maintained the Shuttle service in Delhi NCR while reducing operations in other locations. However, it is now redirecting its focus toward Employee Transportation Services (ETS), which aim to meet corporate commuting needs.

An Uber representative remarked that Shuttle facilitated a robust commuter base and generated valuable insights into high-capacity mobility, which has a strong market presence. The company is now leveraging those insights to tap into a larger opportunity by strategically pivoting towards Employee Transportation Services (ETS), a rapidly expanding corporate commuting segment characterised by steady demand and improved utilisation.

Uber ventured into the ETS domain earlier this year, spurred by increasing demand from corporate clients, including global capability centres, banks, and IT companies. Recently, Uber injected nearly Rs 3,000 crore (approximately $330 million) into its Indian arm, Uber India Systems Pvt Ltd. According to consolidated financial records for FY25, its net revenue from ride-hailing plummeted by 89%, declining to Rs 88 crore in FY25 from Rs 807 crore in FY24.
