Uber Establishes Its First Data Centre in India
Uber’s introduction of its first data centre in India signifies the company’s growing investment in the nation’s technology infrastructure, collaborating with Adani Group. During a recent visit to Ahmedabad, Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced this initiative after discussions with Gautam Adani. Khosrowshahi mentioned that India is rapidly becoming a significant innovation hub for Uber. This facility aims to enable the company to effectively test and deploy technologies from India for its global operations.
This strategic move is part of Uber’s intensified focus on India, which serves as a crucial market for the company’s expansion. While on a five-day trip in India, Khosrowshahi also engaged with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to outline the company’s investment strategy for the region. Additionally, discussions with former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant further highlighted Uber’s commitment to its developmental roadmap in the country.
Partnership with Adani Group
This development is in line with Adani Group’s ambitious plans to enhance digital infrastructure through AdaniConneX, which is actively broadening its presence in various Indian cities. Notably, this includes a major data centre campus situated in Visakhapatnam.
Impact on India’s Digital Ecosystem
Uber’s latest investment aligns with the increasing trend of global technology firms channeling resources into India’s cloud and AI frameworks. This surge is largely motivated by the heightened demand for localised data infrastructure, complemented by the government’s initiatives promoting digital sovereignty.
