Unified Payments Interface: UPI Transactions in June 2026
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) saw an impressive 22.72 billion transactions amounting to Rs 28.92 lakh crore in June 2026. The real-time payments network in India has consistently surpassed 22 billion transactions monthly. Data provided by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) indicates that UPI facilitated approximately 757 million transactions daily during June, with an average daily transaction value around Rs 96,405 crore.
This recent data follows a milestone achievement when UPI exceeded 23 billion monthly transactions for the first time in May, processing 23.20 billion transactions worth Rs 29.90 lakh crore. Comparing June against the previous month, transaction volume saw a month-on-month decline of 2.1%, while transaction value decreased by 3.3%. It is important to note that this decline in monthly transactions was partly influenced by the shorter calendar month; June consisted of 30 days compared to May’s 31. Nevertheless, June did record a higher average daily transaction count of 757 million, which surpassed May’s average of 748 million. Had June been a 31-day month, it would have processed roughly 23.47 billion transactions, exceeding May’s record.
Year-on-Year Growth
Year-on-year, UPI transaction volume experienced a significant increase of 23%, and transaction value saw a rise of 20%. This growth underscores the ongoing expansion of India’s digital payments landscape. In April, UPI handled 22.35 billion transactions amounting to Rs 29.03 lakh crore, before skyrocketing to 23.20 billion transactions in May.
The NPCI also shared market share data for various UPI applications for May. PhonePe maintained its dominant position with a 46.26% market share in transaction volume and a 49.06% share in transaction value. Google Pay followed with a 32.75% share by volume and 33.54% by value. Paytm ranked third among UPI applications, holding a 7.91% share in volume and a 6.66% share in value. The app-wise market share breakdown for June has yet to be released by NPCI.
