WEH Ventures Announces First Close of Fund III

WEH Ventures has officially declared the first close of Fund III, which has a planned corpus of Rs 250 crore. This fund aims to support 20 to 25 early-stage Indian startups that cater to customers in both India and international markets. Fund I was initiated in 2017, followed by the launch of Fund II in 2020. Fund I has provided a return of 1.4 times on the capital invested, while Fund II has already yielded capital through an exit and is performing above the top quartile standards, as reported by the firm.

The initial close has drawn investment from family offices, entrepreneurs who have exited their companies, and high-ranking corporate and technology professionals. Notable early investors include Play Capital, a Nordic fund of funds, as well as family offices like Eraya, Twin & Bull Investments, and Heritage Investments.

The investor roster also includes former founders from businesses such as Oziva and GS Labs, along with senior executives and CEOs from Thermax, Haleon, Lenovo, and PNB MetLife. Additionally, experienced executives from Silicon Valley, linked with firms like Arlo and Intuitive Surgical, have joined the investment round.

Investment Focus of Fund III

Fund III is set to invest in various sectors, including advanced manufacturing, agriculture, energy transition, artificial intelligence, and healthcare, as well as consumer and fintech domains.

Early Investments from Fund III

WEH Ventures has already started allocating funds from Fund III, having committed to eight investments in areas such as advanced agriculture, robotics, healthcare diagnostics, retail, and education technology.

Among the investments announced so far are Fragaria, which operates in advanced horticulture, Praan Health, focused on fitness services and health products, and PlayBlue, a company in the sports retail sector. Recently, one of their portfolio companies secured additional funding at a higher valuation.

WEH Ventures anticipates completing the final closure of Fund III by mid-2027. Since its inception in 2017, the firm has made investments in over 30 companies. Its diverse portfolio includes entities like Smallcase, Jar, Pratilipi, Animall, MasterChow, AppsforBharat, Unbox Robotics, and Mitigata.

Emerging Funds in the Indian Startup Ecosystem

The Indian startup landscape has witnessed a surge in new seed and early-stage funds in 2026, with investors emphasising sectors like deep tech, AI, enterprise technology, and businesses driven by intellectual property.

Java Capital has launched its third fund with a target corpus of Rs 400 crore, including a Rs 150 crore greenshoe option, aimed at supporting 15 to 20 seed-stage deep tech startups. Meanwhile, Aum Ventures has initiated its second fund, India Innovation Fund II, which is targeting Rs 750 crore to invest in 25 to 30 pre-seed and seed-stage startups focused on intellectual property.

Also notable, Anicut Capital has introduced the Rs 175 crore Grand Anicut Seed Fund, which includes a Rs 75 crore greenshoe option, with plans to target over 20 startups across deep tech, enterprise technology, consumer, and financial services from pre-seed to Series A stages.

At the same time, Peak XV Partners successfully closed $1.3 billion across three funds, including one focused on India seed investments, while Elevation Capital concluded its $500 million ninth fund, concentrating on seed and Series A companies.
