Revenue Growth and Operational Insights
Fractal’s revenue from operational activities rose to Rs 913 crore in Q1 FY27, compared to Rs 761 crore in Q1 FY26, as per data acquired from the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Established in 2000, Fractal generates income from various analytics and consulting services, alongside licensing and subscription revenues from its AI platforms, which include Cogentiq, fflyfish.ai, and Kalaido.ai. Additionally, the company garnered Rs 20 crore from non-operational sources, bringing its total income for the quarter to Rs 932 crore.
Cost Components and Profit Analysis
The largest expense for the firm, employee benefit costs, made up over 77% of overall expenditures, climbing by 14% year-on-year to Rs 632 crore in Q1 FY27. Contributing factors to the increase in total expenses, which rose by 17% to Rs 818 crore during the quarter from Rs 700 crore in Q1 FY26, included a rise in depreciation, financing costs, and other overheads. As revenue increased at a slightly higher rate than expenses, Fractal achieved a significant 90% year-on-year profit jump to Rs 72 crore in the first quarter of FY27, compared to Rs 38 crore the previous year. However, on a quarter-on-quarter basis, profits fell by 38% from Rs 116 crore reported in Q4 FY26.
Public Offering and Market Position
Fractal made its public debut in February this year through an IPO valued at Rs 2,834 crore, which included both fresh issues and sales offers. This public offering facilitated exits for existing investors like Apax Partners and TPG Capital. The company’s stock was launched at a 3% discount to its issue price. By the end of Thursday’s trading, Fractal’s share price stood at Rs 866, giving it a total market capitalisation of Rs 14,892 crore (approximately $1.56 billion).
