Go Digit General Insurance Reports Strong Q1 FY27 Performance

Go Digit General Insurance has achieved a 7.6% year-on-year increase in net premium for Q1 FY27. However, the profit for the same timeframe has experienced a significant decline of 37.7%. The company’s net premium has climbed to Rs 2,007 crore in Q1 FY27, up from Rs 1,865 crore in Q1 FY26, as revealed in its regulatory filings.

Gross Premium and Business Segments

Contrarily, the gross premium saw an 8.4% decrease, amounting to Rs 2,731 crore in Q1 FY27 compared to Rs 2,982 crore in the equivalent quarter from the previous year. Within its various business areas, motor insurance remains the dominant segment, contributing Rs 1,510 crore in premiums, followed by health insurance, which generated Rs 366 crore. Furthermore, the company also earned premiums from fire, marine, corporate, crop, and additional insurance segments.

Investment Income and Total Earnings

Income generated from investments rose to Rs 352 crore in Q1 FY27, up from Rs 314 crore during the same quarter last year. Thanks to gains from its investment portfolio and other non-operating income, the overall total income of the company increased to Rs 2,359 crore for the quarter.

Expense Analysis

On the expenses front, commission and brokerage costs have elevated to Rs 615 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 572 crore in Q1 FY26. Additionally, employee benefit expenses saw a 10% rise, increasing to Rs 99 crore from Rs 90 crore a year earlier. The claims paid by the company surged by 16%, reaching Rs 1,046 crore in Q1 FY27, compared to Rs 902 crore in the same quarter last year. Consequently, the total expenses rose by 11.2%, amounting to Rs 2,289 crore compared to Rs 2,058 crore.

Impact on Profitability

The rise in claims and operational expenses has adversely affected the company’s profitability, resulting in a net profit drop of 37.7% to Rs 86 crore in Q1 FY27, down from Rs 138 crore in Q1 FY26.

Market Performance

At the conclusion of Thursday’s trading session, Go Digit’s shares closed at Rs 283 per share, yielding a market capitalisation of Rs 26,166 crore (approximately $2.7 billion).
