Apple Launches New Mac Products and Displays
On March 3, Apple introduced four innovative products: the MacBook Pro equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the MacBook Air with the M5 chip, and two advanced Mac displays, the Studio Display and Studio Display XDR. These display models are tailor-made for both casual users and professional creatives, with Apple asserting that they offer the world’s finest pro display.
Studio Display XDR Overview
Focusing on the Studio Display XDR, John Ternus, who serves as Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, expressed that the Studio Display XDR marks a significant advancement in XDR technology. It boasts a mini-LED backlight, a peak HDR brightness of 2000 nits, exceptional colour accuracy, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. These features revolutionise workflows in filmmaking, design, print, and 3D animation, establishing it as undoubtedly the best pro display available.
Specifications and Features of Studio Display XDR
The Studio Display XDR is equipped with a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR panel, offering a resolution of 5120 × 2880. It employs a mini-LED backlighting system with 2,304 local dimming zones, achieving peak HDR brightness of up to 2000 nits and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. Additionally, it features a refresh rate of 120Hz with Adaptive Sync capabilities ranging between 47Hz and 120Hz.
This model supports both P3 and Adobe RGB colour gamuts via a single preset. In a groundbreaking first for Apple displays, the Studio Display XDR includes DICOM medical imaging support, enabling radiologists to directly view diagnostic images on the display.
Furthermore, it comes with a 12MP Centre Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system that provides an immersive experience with support for Spatial Audio, and two Thunderbolt 5 connections.
Studio Display Essentials
The Studio Display also features a 27-inch 5K Retina display, presenting 14 million pixels, a brightness of up to 600 nits, and P3 wide colour support.
This version includes a 12MP Centre Stage camera that supports Desk View, a high-quality three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound setup with four force-cancelling woofers. Like the XDR model, it also offers Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. Additionally, the display can provide up to 96W of charging power.
Pricing for Studio Display and Studio Display XDR in India
The starting price for the Studio Display is Rs 1,89,900, while the Studio Display XDR begins at Rs 3,99,900. These displays support the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad, the Magic Trackpad, and the Magic Mouse. Pre-orders for the MacBook Air commenced on March 4 at apple.com and via the Apple Store app, with sales officially starting on March 11.
