Asus Exit from Android Mobile Market in 2026

Asus will cease all new smartphone releases in 2026, raising concerns regarding whether the Taiwanese electronics giant is on the verge of exiting the Android mobile sector entirely.

Chairman’s Statements on Future Models

Taiwanese news source Inside reported that Chairman Jonney Shih stated the company “will no longer add new mobile phone models in the future.” While Shih hinted that there might be a future return to the mobile market, he did not make any firm promises, leaving various possibilities open, including a complete exit.

A Shift in Strategy

This decision represents a significant change for a brand that has been recognised for its specialised smartphones, especially its Zenfone flagship series and ROG (Republic of Gamers) devices tailored for mobile gaming fans. With the absence of a new premium device in almost a year, inventory levels for models like the ROG Phone 8 and 9 have dwindled in various international markets.

Support for Existing Customers

Despite halting new production, Shih confirmed that Asus will still provide software updates, warranty coverage, and technical assistance for current users.

Focus Shift to Emerging Technologies

This decision seems part of a larger strategic shift towards advancing technologies. Shih mentioned the possibility of redirecting Asus’ smartphone research teams to concentrate on artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart eyewear.

Industry Challenges

The business has faced challenges due to rising costs in memory components globally, impacting profit margins in an already fiercely competitive smartphone segment. Asus aims to mitigate some of these expenses through improved supply chain collaborations, but the deteriorating conditions in handset manufacturing likely contributed to this withdrawal.

Impact on India’s Smartphone Landscape

In India, the smartphone market is largely controlled by Samsung, Apple, and Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Vivo. The departure of Asus eliminates one of the few adventurous brands that consistently pushed for gaming-oriented hardware and unique flagship designs.

Current Asus users, particularly those who own ROG phones, have received assurances regarding ongoing security updates and warranty support, although the future of the brand in the mobile sector remains ambiguous.
