India’s Clean Homes: Dyson’s Global Wet Cleaning Study Findings

India’s strong fixation on maintaining clean homes might be causing more issues than it resolves, as indicated by Dyson’s first Global Wet Cleaning Study, published on 26 June 2025. Although Indian households lead the world in both the frequency and duration spent on floor cleaning, the strategies and tools employed often fail to ensure adequate hygiene, the report highlights.

Cleaning Habits and Hygiene Deficiencies

The findings indicate that 94.5% of Indian residences have hard floors made of materials like tiles, stone, or wood, necessitating consistent wet cleaning. However, the prevalent reliance on mops, cloths, and buckets could be ineffective or, in some cases, even counterproductive. Almost half (49%) of respondents confessed they do not refresh their cleaning water between rooms, inadvertently spreading dirt instead of eliminating it.

Insights from Dyson’s Engineer

Tim Hare, a Dyson Engineer, noted, “Indians are among the world’s most dedicated floor cleaners; nearly one in two clean their hard floors daily, more than double the global average.” He added, “However, frequency does not equate to hygiene. Conventional cleaning methods and tools might be dispersing dirt and bacteria.”

Challenges Faced During Cleanliness Efforts

The study reveals that one in three Indians regard wet cleaning as overly time-consuming, while 28% find it physically exhausting. Common frustrations include inadequate edge cleaning, slippery surfaces, and challenges associated with hard-to-reach areas. Despite these hurdles, merely 33% of respondents consider cloths or sponges as effective tools for cleaning hard floors.

Interestingly, 62% of Indians identify vacuum cleaners with wet functionality as the optimal solution, yet the awareness and uptake of advanced wet cleaning technologies remain limited.

Dyson’s Innovative Solutions

To address these pressing issues, Dyson has launched the Dyson WashG1, a versatile wet floor cleaner that efficiently tackles both wet and dry debris in a single pass. This device employs dual counter-rotating microfibre rollers alongside a separation system that distinctly keeps dirty water separate from solid waste. Additionally, it incorporates self-cleaning technology and quick-dry capabilities, leaving floors ready for foot traffic 80% faster than traditional mopping methods.

Dyson also brought attention to its multi-functional Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine, a cordless vacuum cleaner that merges dry vacuuming with a wet roller head for thorough cleaning. Equipped with powerful suction, anti-tangle technology, and illumination features, it is crafted to tackle everything from fine dust to sticky spills.
