Tesla Begins Production of Cybercab Autonomous Robotaxi

Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, has officially started producing its eagerly awaited autonomous robotaxi, the Cybercab. This marks a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts towards self-driving transportation.

On April 24, Musk shared a brief promotional video on the social media platform X, confirming that the production of the Cybercab is now underway. The video captures the driverless vehicle as it leaves the manufacturing area and enters public roads.

Video Insights into Tesla’s Autonomous Vision

The 38-second clip provides an insight into Tesla’s aspirations for a completely autonomous ride-hailing service. Additionally, Musk released a separate video showcasing several gold Cybercabs operating in synchrony, indicating plans for widespread deployment.

Positive Financial Outlook and Future Plans

Tesla reported results that exceeded expectations for the March quarter, achieving a net profit of $477 million. During the recent earnings call, the company indicated that it remains on schedule to commence mass production of both the Cybercab and the Tesla Semi electric truck by 2026.

The Design of the Cybercab

The Cybercab, first revealed in late 2024, is engineered as a dedicated robotaxi, lacking both a steering wheel and pedals. Musk previously suggested that the vehicle could become available to the public around 2027.

Early Testing of Robotaxi Services

Tesla has begun trialing its robotaxi services on a limited scale, providing select users in Austin, Texas, with initial rides since mid-2025. In February, the company also published an image of what it claimed was the first Cybercab model rolling out of its Giga Texas facility.
