Chrome has introduced a game-changing feature that allows its browser to automatically populate additional personal details, such as passport numbers, driver’s licence information, and vehicle registration data. This enhancement builds on Chrome’s current autofill functionalities, which already cover addresses, passwords, and payment information.
Highlights
Chrome’s Enhanced Autofill Capabilities
New Features for Desktop Users
Desktop users who enable the enhanced autofill option will find that Chrome can now complete fields for important documents like passports, driving licences, vehicle identification numbers (VINs), and licence plates when prompted on various websites. According to Google, this upgrade includes improved form recognition, enabling the browser to interpret complex forms and different formatting standards more effectively, thereby increasing autofill accuracy.
Privacy and Security Assurance
The company emphasizes that Chrome will only save and utilise personal information with clear consent from users. All stored data will be encrypted, and before any saved details are automatically filled in, users will receive a prompt to confirm the action, ensuring both security and privacy.
Global Rollout and Future Updates
These new features are currently being rolled out worldwide and will be available in all languages. Google has indicated that support for additional types of data will be introduced in the near future.
This improvement is part of Google’s recent efforts to enhance Chrome, keeping it competitive with newer AI-driven browsers. In October, the company made Gemini accessible to all Mac and Windows desktop users in the United States, which was previously limited to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
Future Plans for Chrome
Google is also looking to incorporate agentic AI functionalities into Chrome, including an AI-driven search mode in the address bar and features for scam detection, automatic password resets, and improved management of browser accounts.
Other Recent Updates
Additionally, smaller updates that have been launched include the automatic disabling of notifications from websites that are not actively used and easier switching between personal and work Google accounts.
