Gemini AI Enhancements for Google Workspace

Gemini AI is transforming Google Workspace with significant updates to its suite, allowing users to create documents, presentations, and spreadsheets in the formats they desire. This innovation draws content from various sources, including Gmail, Chat, and Drive.

The rollout of Gemini AI features is currently in beta and will initially be accessible to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, available in English around the world for Google Workspace applications. Google asserts that these improvements will personalise the workspace and enhance productivity.

Gemini Capabilities in Docs, Sheets, and Slides

In Google Docs, Gemini AI allows users to generate documents from scratch by collecting data from their files and emails. Users have the option to instruct Gemini to accomplish specific tasks, such as creating a newsletter using the meeting minutes from the January HOA meeting.

Additionally, the suite introduces new AI functionalities, including “Match writing style” and “Match doc format,” which help users maintain consistent voice and tone throughout their documents, as well as replicate the layout of a reference file.

Features in Sheets

In Sheets, Gemini AI can construct spreadsheets from scratch based on user input. A new feature known as “Fill with Gemini” allows for automatic table autofills, retrieving summarised, categorised, or real-time data from the web.

Examples provided in Google’s blog highlight that Gemini can seamlessly populate a college application tracker with essential deadlines and tuition information for each institution without the need for extensive research.

Enhancements in Slides

In Slides, users can direct Gemini to create a new slide using an existing theme while sourcing content from various files, emails, and the internet. Furthermore, Google is developing a feature enabling users to generate an entire presentation from a single prompt.

Gemini AI Features in Drive

Drive now benefits from Gemini AI, offering an “AI Overview” that encapsulates pertinent information from files along with citations.

A novel feature, “Ask Gemini in Drive,” allows users to obtain information, pose questions, and access data across documents, emails, calendar entries, and the web.

These enhancements are poised to keep Google competitive with other industry giants like Microsoft’s Copilot and Anthropic’s Claude Cowork.
