In a post on X, AI expert Gina Acosta mentioned that by utilising Grok, she was able to reduce the cost of a flight from $1,200 to $340. This was achieved through a series of targeted prompts aimed at analysing the behaviours of airline pricing.
According to Acosta, various prompts could expose the dynamic pricing strategies used by airlines and how travellers could navigate around these systems.

The initial prompt is centred on route-level pricing intelligence. It requests, “I need to fly from [departure city] to [destination city] between [date range]. Analysing the typical pricing patterns for this route,” which aims to unveil the most economical days to travel, optimal booking periods, and seasonal trends.
Exploring Nearby Airports
Another method involves broadening the search beyond primary airports. Acosta suggested querying AI tools to find “ALL nearby alternative airports within 100 miles of each location,” factoring in ground transport costs to accurately assess savings.
Utilising Hidden City Ticketing
The technique of hidden city ticketing is another focal point. This controversial approach involves booking flights with layovers at the intended destination if they are more economical than direct flights. The prompt advises AI to “Find flights where [destination] is a layover city on a longer route that costs less,” while detailing the potential risks, regulations, and possible savings.
Identifying Mistake Fares
Identifying mistake fares and pricing errors is another key element of her strategy. One prompt seeks a defined approach to track these anomalies, including “websites, tools, and alert systems” to monitor, as well as how to differentiate between authentic errors and promotional offers.
Maximising Airline Points
Acosta also pointed out the benefits of airline points arbitrage, recommending that travellers evaluate whether purchasing miles, utilising credit card bonuses, transferring loyalty points, or booking additional flights to cheaper hubs would be more cost-effective. The prompt instructs to “Show me the math for each option.”
