Infinix GT 30 stands apart in the mid-range smartphone arena. It aims not just for conformity but for distinction. Featuring a mecha-inspired design, RGB backlighting, and dedicated gaming triggers, the GT 30 is designed for gamers seeking performance and style at an accessible price point. This device was subjected to an extensive gaming test over a week, providing valuable insights into its capabilities.

Design and Display

The design of the GT 30 is striking and unapologetic. Its mechanical-inspired aesthetics combined with customizable RGB lighting set it apart as a device meant for gamers rather than casual users. While minimalists may not find it appealing, those who appreciate flair will find this phone meets their expectations.

The 6.78-inch AMOLED display was impressive from the outset. With a 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness reaching 4500 nits, the screen provided a fluid and sharp experience whether gaming or streaming. Scrolling felt silky smooth, colours were vibrant, and visibility in direct sunlight was superb. The Gorilla Glass 7i protection offered added reassurance against scratches and the occasional drop.

Performance and Gaming

At the core of the GT 30 is the MediaTek Dimensity 7400, manufactured using a 4nm process. In everyday scenarios, the phone managed every task effortlessly. The primary focus, however, was to assess its gaming performance, which is of utmost importance for this device.

It was tested with games such as BGMI, Call of Duty Mobile, and Genshin Impact. Both BGMI and COD operated at 90FPS with stable frame rates, while Genshin Impact managed around 40–45FPS on medium settings. The phone remained surprisingly cool, thanks to its vapour chamber cooling system, enhancing comfort during extended sessions. At under ₹20,000, the performance exceeded expectations.

The inclusion of “GT Triggers” significantly enriched the gaming experience, particularly in COD and BGMI, where rapid reflexes are essential. For non-gamers, these buttons can be customised for multiple functions. When not gaming, they served as a skip button for Spotify playlists, allowing seamless control without needing to look at the phone.

Cameras

The camera capabilities of the GT 30 make it clear that it primarily targets gamers. The 64MP Sony IMX682 primary sensor performed satisfactorily in well-lit conditions but fell short in low-light environments due to the absence of optical image stabilization.

The 8MP ultrawide camera is functional but not remarkable, while the 13MP selfie camera yields decent shots outdoors, struggling in dim settings due to overzealous smoothing. Video recording capabilities go up to 4K at 30fps with electronic stabilization, yet this device should not be perceived as a serious contender for mobile photography.

Software and Updates

The GT 30 operates on Android 15, featuring Infinix’s XOS 15 skin. New additions, such as the Dynamic Bar which resembles an iOS notification style, and AI-driven battery optimisation were appreciated. However, XOS still appears somewhat laden with pre-installed apps that may not be necessary.

Infinix ensures two years of OS updates along with three years of security patches. This offer is reasonable for its price category but should be taken into account if long-term software support is important.

Battery and Charging

The GT 30 boasts exceptional battery life. Its 5500mAh battery comfortably lasted a full day, even with heavy usage that included gaming, video streaming, and constant notifications. On lighter usage days, it extended to about a day and a half.

Charging is facilitated by a 45W fast charger included in the package. It achieved 50% in around 30 minutes and a complete charge in just under an hour. The phone also features bypass charging, which is advantageous for gaming without overheating the battery, along with 10W reverse charging for smaller devices when in need.

Verdict

The Infinix GT 30 ranks among the most distinctive gaming phones available for under ₹20,000. It features a stunning 144Hz AMOLED display, dependable performance powered by the Dimensity 7400, remarkable battery life, and intriguing extras like RGB lighting and gaming triggers.

Notwithstanding its benefits, the device has its drawbacks. The cameras are merely average, the storage employs a slower UFS 2.2 standard, and the software can be improved. However, for those prioritising gaming and multimedia capabilities, this phone significantly surpasses expectations.

For budget-conscious gamers, the Infinix GT 30 presents a surprisingly comprehensive package and ranks among the most enjoyable phones in this category.
