Infinix Note 50x 5G+: A Budget Phone Redefining Value

Infinix Note 50x 5G+ stands out as a budget phone that refuses to compromise on quality. Priced below ₹12,000, it represents Infinix’s daring bid for the budget smartphone title. With its MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultimate processor, ample 5,500mAh battery, an intelligent array of AI features, and competent cameras, this phone has much to offer.

However, beyond the eye-catching specifications, does this phone perform well in real-life situations? After extensive testing involving gaming, streaming, and photography, here is the assessment.

Design & Display: A Premium Appearance with Limitations

Upon first viewing, the Note 50x does not give off a budget vibe. Its matte back panel, along with a neat camera arrangement, showcases careful design. The camera module juts out slightly, but the wobble is minimal. Weighing just under 200g and boasting an IP64 rating, this phone balances aesthetics and functionality, providing splash resistance, which is notable in this price bracket.

However, the 6.67-inch HD+ IPS display reveals where the savings occur. With a resolution limited to 720p, the display feels underwhelming, particularly when sub-₹10K phones offer Full HD alternatives. While the 120Hz refresh rate does enhance the smoothness of scrolling and gaming, the peak brightness of 672 nits renders outdoor visibility just satisfactory rather than enjoyable.

For watching media, the display performs adequately. Streaming services like Netflix and YouTube operate smoothly, yet clarity diminishes, especially with text-heavy material or intricate user interface elements. On a positive note, the side-mounted fingerprint scanner is quick and dependable, and face unlock features are impressively responsive.

Camera: Surprising Quality for its Specifications

Although the specification downgrade from a 108MP sensor in the Note 40x to a 50MP camera may seem like a regression, the 50x optimally utilises its capabilities. In well-lit environments, the phone produces sharp, well-composed images with lifelike colour reproduction. Skin tones are rendered naturally, warm without excessive smoothing, and the edge detection in portrait shots is impressive for its price range.

The 8MP front-facing camera performs adequately in good light, though yields less satisfactory results in darker conditions. Low-light photography can be grainy, but the night mode offers manageable enhancement. When compared to competitors like the POCO M7 Pro or Vivo T4x, the 50x is often on par, occasionally excelling in edge details and colour accuracy.

Video recording is limited to 2K resolution with digital stabilisation, yet it suffices for casual use.

Performance & Gaming: Exceeding Expectations

The star of the show is the Dimensity 7300 Ultimate SoC. When combined with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, it ensures smooth multitasking and robust gaming experiences. Titles like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile ran seamlessly on medium settings, with thermals remaining stable without additional cooling mechanisms.

Benchmark results for the Note 50x surpass those of the POCO M7 Pro and closely align with the more expensive Vivo T4x, showcasing its remarkable capabilities for its class. An absence of frame drops during multitasking, app transitions, and light photo editing enhances the perception of this device as a higher-end model.

Software & AI: Refined and Functionally Smart

The device operates on XOS 15 based on Android 15, revealing a more refined user interface. It appears cleaner, operates more smoothly, and is less burdened by unwanted apps compared to prior versions. Though 48 pre-installed applications may seem excessive, a considerable number can be uninstalled, and the system operates with notable speed.

The AI suite reveals practical functionalities. Features like Circle to Search operate smoothly, image cutouts in the gallery look polished, and while AI live-call translation is not flawless, it demonstrates potential. The built-in translator, AI note functions, and on-screen Smart Translation gestures are useful, albeit sometimes inconsistent.

Importantly, Infinix guarantees two significant OS updates and three years of security patches, indicating a commendable commitment to software support within the budget segment.

Battery Life & Charging: Robust Performance with Quick Charging

A 5,500mAh battery ensures sufficient longevity to last throughout the day and beyond. With light usage, it can extend up to 1.5 days. Even under heavy usage—such as gaming, video streaming, and calls—it remains reliable until the end of the day.

Charging is efficient, aided by 45W fast charging technology that can recharge from 20 to 100% in just over 40 minutes. The inclusion of bypass charging is a notable feature for gamers, as it helps mitigate heat during intense gameplay sessions. Additionally, reverse charging at 10W is a welcome bonus.

Price-to-Performance Ratio: Exceptional Value

The Infinix Note 50x 5G+ exceeds expectations by delivering swift performance, dependable cameras, and substantial battery life at an affordable price. Although it has its imperfections—such as the HD+ display contrasting sharply with the FHD+ competition, and the absence of a headphone jack which may deter some users—it remains a compelling offering. For those seeking a reliable daily device that performs efficiently, maintains cool operation, and provides lasting battery life, the Note 50x is a significant contender.
