Origin OS 6 Launch in India
Origin OS 6 is set to launch soon in India, according to iQOO, with the announcement made by iQOO India CEO Nipun Marya through a post on X (formerly Twitter). This development will align India with China, where Vivo and its sub-brand iQOO devices are already operating on the Origin OS platform.
Transition from Funtouch OS to Origin OS 6
Previously, Indian versions of iQOO and Vivo smartphones have been using Funtouch OS, which is currently at version 15, built on Android 15. With the introduction of Origin OS 6, users in India will benefit from a consistent interface across different markets.
Expected Rollout Timeline
The initial rollout of the update is anticipated to occur on premium smartphones before it extends to mid-range and budget models. However, it is still uncertain if all existing Vivo and iQOO devices in India will be upgraded to the new operating system.
Speculation Surrounding the Announcement
The announcement comes after a period of speculation. Recently, the official X handle for Funtouch OS underwent a name change to OriginOS (@FuntouchOS_IN), indicating this shift. There were also hints on Reddit from a purported Vivo India employee suggesting that the update was on the horizon.
Launch Date in China
In China, Origin OS 6 is due for release on October 10, 2025, alongside the flagship Vivo X300 and X300 Pro smartphones, which are expected to feature the Android 16-based skin out of the box.
Benefits of Origin OS for Indian Users
By adopting Origin OS in India, Vivo and iQOO are looking to simplify their global software approach while ensuring that Indian consumers have access to the latest user interface innovations.
