Lenovo Unveils Innovative Yoga Solar PC Concept at MWC 2025

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Lenovo presented a variety of cutting-edge technologies, prominently featuring the Yoga Solar PC Concept, a laptop that utilises solar energy to prolong battery life.

Exploring the Yoga Solar PC Concept

The Yoga Solar PC Concept serves as an early proof-of-concept product, incorporating a high-efficiency solar panel seamlessly integrated into the laptop’s lid. This solar panel utilises ‘Back Contact Cell’ technology, strategically placing mounting brackets and gridlines on the rear of the solar cells, thereby enhancing light absorption. Consequently, the device achieves an exceptional solar conversion rate exceeding 24%.

Solar Energy Efficiency

Lenovo claims that in direct sunlight, the panel can absorb and convert sufficient solar energy within just 20 minutes to enable up to one hour of video playback. Even in dim lighting, the system is engineered to produce power, assisting in maintaining battery charge during idle periods. The Dynamic Solar Tracking system, developed by the company, constantly monitors the panel’s voltage and current, automatically fine-tuning settings to maximise energy collection.

Specifications of the Yoga Solar PC Concept

This lightweight device boasts a thickness of 15mm and weighs approximately 1.22kg (2.29 pounds). It features a 14-inch OLED display and is powered by Intel’s Lunar Lake processor, complemented by 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Production Plans Yet to be Disclosed

Lenovo has not indicated any timeline for the potential commercial release of the Yoga Solar PC Concept. Nonetheless, the organisation has a history of transforming concept devices into market-ready products. A notable example is the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which was initially revealed as a concept at MWC 2023 featuring an expandable and rollable display, scheduled for release in June 2025.

Additional Solar Energy Solutions

In addition, Lenovo unveiled an external solar power kit concept targeted at current Yoga laptop users. This stand-alone device features foldable solar panels that can easily be attached to a backpack or set up using a kickstand. It connects through USB-C to directly charge devices or store energy in an included power bank. Similar to the Yoga Solar PC, this solar power kit remains conceptual, with no formal production plans announced yet.

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Lenovo’s vision for the Yoga Solar PC Concept aligns seamlessly with its overarching objective of incorporating renewable energy into computing solutions. The company aims to bridge functionality with environmental sustainability, providing an alternative energy source for users working in diverse environments, both indoor and outdoor. Although the technology is still under development, it signifies a notable advancement towards decreasing dependency on conventional power sources.
