Despite consistent requests from users over many years, Meta has been reluctant to create a dedicated Instagram version for the iPad. In 2022, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, told tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, “We get this one a lot. It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things.”
In 2023, he shared similar thoughts, indicating that while he believed developing an iPad app would be “a good thing to do,” the team was limited in resources and had to focus on other priorities.

However, with TikTok’s uncertain future, Meta may be revisiting its approach. A dedicated iPad application would improve user experience by taking full advantage of the larger display and the unique features of iPadOS. While Instagram on the iPad is functional through Stage Manager and a notably enhanced web app, users have often highlighted the shortcomings of the enlarged iPhone interface.
