Meta introduced exciting new features for its metaverse platform during the Connect developer conference, with a key focus on Hyperscape, a tool designed to enable users to convert real-world locations into engaging digital experiences.
The company announced that Hyperscape Capture is being launched in Early Access for Quest 3 and Quest 3S devices. This feature allows users to scan a room within just a few minutes, experiencing a lifelike digital version of that space in virtual reality. While the scanning process is rapid, Meta mentioned that the rendering could take several hours.
Already, Hyperscape has been used to create impressive virtual spaces, including the kitchen of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay in Los Angeles, Chance the Rapper’s House of Kicks, the UFC Apex’s Octagon in Las Vegas, and influencer Happy Kelli’s room filled with Crocs.
Initially, users will be unable to invite others to their virtual environments. Meta stated that this capability will be made available later through private links. Access will be restricted to individuals aged 18 and over, and the integration will occur gradually, meaning not all Quest owners will gain access to the feature at the same time.
In addition to these updates, Meta revealed a new selection of VR games slated for release this autumn. The upcoming titles include:
• Marvel’s Deadpool VR • ILM’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory • Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked • Reach
On the entertainment front, Horizon TV is set to enhance its offerings by incorporating support for Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu. Additionally, a collaboration with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse aims to deliver immersive experiences for horror films like M3GAN and The Black Phone. Fans will also have limited access to a 3D clip of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
