Vibe Working Enhancement in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft has unveiled what it labels as vibe working within Microsoft 365 Copilot, introducing Agent Mode in Office applications and Office Agent in Copilot chat. This initiative represents a novel approach to productivity, merging human input with AI-enabled execution.

Vibe Working through Agent Mode

Agent Mode is currently accessible in Excel and Word, with PowerPoint support anticipated soon. Microsoft mentioned that this feature fosters agentic productivity, allowing users to provide Copilot with simple commands and then collaborate with the AI through complex tasks.

In Excel, Agent Mode utilises OpenAI’s most recent reasoning models to simplify advanced data modeling. The tool is capable of generating formulas, creating visual representations, and refining outputs through repeated assessments. According to Microsoft’s benchmarks, Copilot in Excel’s Agent Mode demonstrated 57.2% accuracy across SpreadsheetBench tasks.

Use cases may involve the development of financial reports, loan calculators, and personal budget trackers.

Office Agent in Copilot Chat

Furthermore, Microsoft introduced Office Agent within the Copilot chat, which can produce Word documents and PowerPoint presentations based on chat prompts. Built on Anthropic models, this feature aims to enhance AI-generated slides and documents by clarifying user intent, conducting online research, and generating structured outputs for collaborative refinement.

Suggested scenarios include business planning presentations, retirement savings tutorials, and reports on market dynamics.

Availability

Agent Mode in Excel and Word is accessible today for participants in the Frontier programme with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses and Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscribers, initially focusing on web versions. Desktop versions are expected to launch shortly.

Office Agent is being rolled out to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers in the United States through Copilot on the web, in English.

Microsoft affirmed that these updates illustrate the inception of their vibe working vision, aimed at introducing more collaborative AI experiences into daily productivity.
