Perplexity and Motorola Partnership Brings AI-Powered Technology to Smartphones
Perplexity has officially revealed a global collaboration with Motorola, aiming to have its AI-enhanced answer engine pre-installed on millions of smartphones across the globe. This partnership kicks off with the newest series of Motorola devices, including the Razr and Edge 60.
According to the details shared in the announcement, Perplexity will be seamlessly incorporated into Motorola’s hardware and software ecosystem. The pre-loaded app is crafted to provide users immediate access to Perplexity’s search and assistant functionalities without the need for individual downloads from the Play Store.
In an interview with CNBC, Perplexity’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, indicated that this integration represents a distribution collaboration. The main goal is for Perplexity to acquire users rather than generate revenue.
The CEO stated that they are not profiting from Motorola’s sales or similar ventures, explaining that the focus is on user engagement and introducing remarkable new features, creating a mutually beneficial relationship for both parties.
As part of this integration, the Perplexity app will bring features specifically designed for Motorola smartphones. For instance, it will provide support for the external display of the Razr when folded, enabling users to retrieve information even with the device closed. Furthermore, the Perplexity Assistant will broaden its utility beyond mere information gathering, allowing users to send emails, schedule reminders, play media, make restaurant reservations, and order rides.
Motorola users will gain access to the assistant directly via Moto AI by entering the phrase “Ask Perplexity,” alongside exploring additional information through Perplexity’s “Next Move” feature, which suggests related inquiries based on the displayed content.
This development marks one of the largest integrations of Perplexity with a smartphone brand to date.
New users of Motorola devices will also be granted three months of complimentary access to Perplexity Pro, the company’s high-end subscription service. This premium offering includes advanced resources, a selection of AI models (such as Claude 3.5 Sonnet, GPT-4o, and Sonar), limitless file uploads, Pro Shopping features, and improved reasoning functionalities.
Perplexity has asserted that the goal of this collaboration is to redefine smartphones as enhanced assistants by merging AI-driven research and task execution tools into a cohesive native experience. The organisation sees this integration as a significant leap toward the future of mobile technology, where the synthesis of information and real-time actions occur seamlessly.
