Oracle Revokes Job Offers to IIT and NIT Students Amid Restructuring

A rising number of fresh graduates from the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and the National Institute of Technology (NITs) are reporting that Oracle has withdrawn campus placement and pre-placement job offers. These claims emerge as the company is undergoing a significant restructuring process following the announcement of 30,000 global job cuts in April.

The decision by the tech giant has impacted numerous students across India’s top engineering institutes, prompting many to reach out to recruiters on the professional networking site, LinkedIn, for alternative job opportunities.

A “Zero-Day” Setback

A significant portion of the students had obtained jobs through zero-day campus placements, restricting their ability to explore other recruitment options. As the placement season nears its conclusion, they find themselves on the lookout for new opportunities.

A student named Smit Jogani from IIT Kanpur posted on LinkedIn expressing that hitting rock bottom just before the finish line is challenging.

He remarked that rebuilding from this experience is what he intends to focus on while staying optimistic.

Gautam Raj, in another LinkedIn post, shared that writing about the revocation of his job offer was a difficult experience. He received the disheartening news just a week before his graduation from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, regarding his Day 1 campus placement offer from Oracle for the Member Technical Staff role.

Raj described the job offer as a dream that slipped away. He highlighted the difficulty in participating in other placement drives due to the “One Student, One Job” policy.

He expressed deep sorrow at the loss of his opportunity so close to the finish line, noting how distressing it is to start afresh at the last moment after forfeiting other attractive prospects.

Another student from IIT Kanpur, Kaushal Jain, has also been reaching out on LinkedIn for job opportunities after his offer was withdrawn.

Currently, the extent of revoked job offers across the nation remains unclear. Reports indicate that over 50 students have been impacted at IIT, with several cases arising from NITs, including three students from NIT Warangal.

Oracle Layoffs

Earlier in April, Oracle informed over 30,000 employees worldwide about layoffs through an early morning email, with many workers left uncertain about their futures. It is estimated that nearly 12,000 employees affected were based in India, with the bulk of layoffs occurring in the healthcare division.
