MWC 2026: Qualcomm’s Innovations in Mobile Technology
The Mobile World Congress 2026 has begun in Spain, with tech brands striving to showcase their latest innovations. Qualcomm, a leading name in semiconductors, has unveiled several key announcements, including the Snapdragon Wear Elite, FastConnect 8800, and X105 5G Modem. These launches are set to revolutionise the future of wearable devices and advanced mobile technology.
Qualcomm FastConnect 8800 Mobile Connectivity System
Qualcomm has introduced the FastConnect 8800, a cutting-edge mobile connectivity solution. This system combines Wi-Fi 8, Bluetooth 7, Ultra Wideband, and Thread to enhance device connectivity. With a 4×4 radio architecture, it promises Wi-Fi speeds of up to 11.6 Gbps.
The FastConnect 8800 can operate on 6GHz, 5GHz, and 2.4GHz bands, using 320MHz channels, bidirectional MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and TWT. Furthermore, it incorporates Bluetooth 7 features such as Channel Sounding, Snapdragon Sound, XPAN, LE Audio, and aptX. Qualcomm has also introduced the Proximity AI stack, designed for smart device recognition, enhanced pairing processes, and context-sensitive interactions.
Snapdragon Wear Elite
Qualcomm has revealed the Snapdragon Wear Elite, a specialised chip aimed at driving the next generation of AI wearables. This chip incorporates Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU, enabling the use of billion-parameter AI models directly on the wearable device.
The Snapdragon Wear Elite is said to possess agentic AI features, providing personalised suggestions and facilitating natural voice interactions, while managing tasks on behalf of the user.
This new chip offers up to five times single-core CPU improvements, seven times GPU enhancements, and a 30% increase in battery life compared to the previous generation. It also includes expanded connectivity options such as 5G RedCap, Micro-Power Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6.0, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), GNSS, and NB-NTN satellite connectivity.
Qualcomm has confirmed that devices powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite will be launched in the upcoming months.
Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF System
At the MWC event, Qualcomm introduced the X105 5G Modem-RF, a flagship modem platform that also supports WiFi 8. This system is designed to enhance AI-driven 5G connectivity, featuring a next-generation AI processor specifically for 5G.
The X105 boasts a reduction in power consumption by 30% and a 15% smaller footprint, thanks to new RF transceiver technology as compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, the modem includes the QET8200 envelope tracker, NR-NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) capabilities, an advanced GNSS engine, and additional features for improved satellite integration and efficient 5G operation.
