Reliance Industries and Meta Collaborate on AI Solutions

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) recently introduced a joint venture (JV) with Meta aimed at developing and enhancing enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for businesses in India and select markets abroad.

The agreement involves an initial investment of around ₹855 crore (US$100 million), with Reliance owning a 70 percent share and Meta holding 30 percent. This transaction will go through standard regulatory approvals and is projected to be finalised in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Enterprise AI Innovations

The JV will utilise Meta’s cutting-edge open-source Llama models to provide enterprise-grade AI solutions on a large scale. It will offer two main services:

1. Enterprise AI Platform-as-a-Service

A secure and comprehensive environment allowing organisations to tailor, implement, and govern generative AI models for various applications, including sales, marketing, IT development and operations, customer service, finance, and other business processes.

2. Pre-configured AI Solutions

A selection of ready-made applications specifically designed to meet both cross-functional and industry-specific requirements.

By merging Meta’s AI capabilities with Reliance’s robust digital infrastructure, the partnership seeks to make enterprise-grade AI more accessible to Indian firms, especially small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The companies have stated that the JV will take advantage of Llama’s proven readiness in real-world settings and will deliver solutions at a reduced overall cost compared to traditional models.

Deployment Flexibility for Businesses

This joint venture will also provide businesses with deployment flexibility, supporting cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure arrangements. This will help organisations better manage infrastructure costs while scaling high-performance AI models.

Statements from Leadership

At the venture announcement, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani remarked that this collaboration represents a crucial step toward making AI more accessible for Indian businesses.

He expressed that collaborating with Meta realises the vision of providing AI to every individual and enterprise by combining Meta’s widely recognised open-source Llama models with Reliance’s deep industry expertise. This initiative is intended to democratise enterprise-grade AI for all Indian organisations, from ambitious SMBs to established corporations, empowering them to innovate rapidly and compete successfully on a global level.

Ambani mentioned that Reliance would serve as a significant real-world environment for deploying and refining the JV’s offerings, ensuring quick iterations and ongoing improvements.

Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg also noted that the partnership would broaden Meta’s AI presence in the enterprise sector.

He conveyed excitement about enhancing the collaboration with Reliance to bring the benefits of open-source AI to Indian developers and businesses. Through this JV, Meta’s Llama models will be utilised in actual applications, and Zuckerberg expressed enthusiasm about expanding Meta’s influence in the enterprise domain as they explore new opportunities together.
