PlayStation 5 Price Hike Announced by Sony

PlayStation 5 prices have seen an increase globally, according to a recent announcement from Sony. The company has attributed this adjustment to “challenging” economic factors, which may partly stem from the current tariff situation implemented by US President Donald Trump.

Revised Retail Prices for PS5

The price hike impacts various regions, affecting one of the most sought-after gaming consoles globally. Below are the updated recommended retail prices (RRP) for the PS5:

  • Europe: €499.99 (PS5 Digital Edition); standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive remains unaffected
  • UK: £429.99 (PS5 Digital Edition); pricing unchanged for the standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive
  • Australia: AUD 749.95 (PS5 Digital Edition); AUD 829.95 (standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive)
  • New Zealand: NZD 859.95 (PS5 Digital Edition); NZD 949.95 (standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive)

In a blog update, Sony stated that this “tough decision” was influenced by soaring inflation and variable exchange rates. However, there is positive news for gamers in India, as the country is currently not experiencing any increase in PS5 prices. Additionally, the pricing for the PS5 Pro remains stable.

Updated Prices for PS5 Disc Drive

The RRP for the Disc Drive associated with PS5 has been reduced. Here are the new prices:

  • Europe: €79.99
  • UK: £69.99
  • Australia: AUD 124.95
  • New Zealand: NZD 139.95

This is not the first instance of Sony implementing a price increase for the PS5. The gaming console previously saw its first price hike in 2022, and this latest adjustment positions the PS5 as a more expensive option in several regions.
