Tata Group and Intel Corporation Forge Strategic Alliance for Semiconductor Development


The strategic alliance between Tata Group and Intel Corporation marks a significant advancement in bolstering India’s semiconductor landscape. This collaboration, formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding on 8th December 2025, aims to create a geo-resilient electronics and semiconductor supply chain within India.

Joint Efforts in Semiconductor Manufacturing

This partnership intends to explore collaborative avenues in the manufacturing and packaging of semiconductor systems, as well as hardware enablement for both consumer and enterprise sectors. Tata Electronics’ upcoming Fab and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facilities will be key to this endeavour, focusing on the manufacturing and packaging of Intel products tailored for local markets.

Advanced Packaging Initiatives

There is also potential for collaboration on advanced packaging within India, further enhancing the capabilities of the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

Scaling AI Solutions for Indian Market

The two companies are also set to investigate scaling personalised AI PC solutions for both consumer and enterprise markets, with expectations for India to rank among the top five global markets by 2030. This initiative will utilise Intel’s AI compute reference designs combined with Tata Electronics’ Electronics Manufacturing Services capabilities.

Commitment to a Robust Semiconductor Industry

N Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of Tata Sons, highlighted the strategic importance of this project, affirming the Tata Group’s commitment to fostering a strong semiconductor industry in India. He conveyed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Intel and noted that this strategic alliance would accelerate efforts to establish an extensive technology ecosystem, delivering top-quality semiconductor and systems solutions to capture the burgeoning AI market.

Market Potential and Growth

CEO of Intel Corporation, Lip-Bu Tan, echoed this optimism regarding the partnership’s market potential. He remarked on Intel’s legacy of driving advancements in computing and expressed intent to expand their influence through this collaboration with Tata, tapping into one of the world’s most rapidly evolving compute markets, spurred by increasing PC demand and swift AI integration in India.

Implementing a Reliable Supply Chain

Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Electronics, stated that the MoU aligns perfectly with their strategic roadmap across EMS, OSAT, and Semiconductor Fab, ensuring a dependable and resilient supply chain for customers. This powerful partnership is designed to enhance cost competitiveness and accelerate time-to-market for next-generation AI compute solutions in the region.
