Big Tech companies Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon are reportedly engaged in detailed discussions regarding a substantial investment of $60 billion (around Rs 5.52 lakh crore) in OpenAI, as the artificial intelligence (AI) firm seeks to enhance its funding for future growth.

According to The Information, this funding round could value the ChatGPT creator at nearly $730 billion before any agreements are finalised. If the deal comes to fruition, it could elevate the company’s valuation past the $800 billion threshold, solidifying its status as the most valuable private firm globally.

The anticipated investment involves a group of OpenAI’s key software and infrastructure partners.

Nvidia is contemplating a leading contribution of up to $30 billion. Being the main supplier of GPUs necessary for training extensive language models, Nvidia’s engagement underscores its significant interest in the ongoing advancement of the AI ecosystem.

Amazon appears to be evaluating a potential investment ranging from $10 billion to $20 billion, marking its first direct stake in the company. Sources indicate that this investment may depend on OpenAI’s increased utilisation of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure.

The report from The Information also indicated that Amazon’s investment could hinge on negotiations regarding an expansion of OpenAI’s cloud server leasing agreement with Amazon, along with a commercial contract for OpenAI to sell products, such as enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions, through Amazon.

Microsoft, a key supporter of OpenAI, is expected to augment its previous multi-billion-dollar commitment with an additional investment of approximately $10 billion, thus further integrating OpenAI’s technologies into its Azure cloud platform.

This enormous capital influx follows a $41 billion investment from SoftBank, concluded in December 2025. These funds are crucial for OpenAI, particularly as it tackles rising expenses related to data centres and the substantial computing power needed to pursue Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
