Beeple’s Hyperrealistic Robot Dogs at Art Basel Miami Beach

Beeple, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, presented a distinctive exhibition at Art Basel Miami Beach. The videos from this exhibition gained immense popularity, showing billionaires such as Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos transformed into hyperrealistic robot dogs. The event was entitled “Regular Animals,” catching attention with robotic dogs adorned in enigmatic, lifelike masks crafted by Landon Meier.

Exploring the Influence of Tech Billionaires

As reported by Mashable, Winkelmann noted that the artwork delves into the substantial impact tech billionaires have on society and public perception. He remarked on the dramatic evolution in creative expression, contrasting it with times when artists held significant sway over people’s interpretations. Today, social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X substantially influence what billions encounter online and shape their viewpoints.

The Artwork’s Reception

The exhibition featured robot dogs roaming through open areas, which many viewers described as eerie or bizarre, according to the report. In the footage, the robotic creatures leaned back and raised their heads while printing artwork, prompting viewers to joke that it resembled a dog defecating. The screen simultaneously displayed the words “poop mode.”

This artwork has become one of the most discussed exhibitions, stirring a mix of discomfort and intrigue among people regarding the depiction of billionaires as hyperrealistic robot dogs. Despite its controversial nature, all the robot dogs have been acquired by private collectors, with each piece valued at approximately $100,000, marking a successful and lucrative exhibition for Beeple.
