Tesla Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Network in India
Tesla has inaugurated its initial charging station in Gurugram, representing a crucial milestone in the company’s efforts to develop an extensive network for electric vehicle charging across India. This new facility is situated in DLF Horizon Center and follows the recent establishment of the Tesla Centre in the same city.
Charging Facility Features
The charging site is equipped with four V4 Superchargers, providing peak charging speeds of up to 250 kW. Additionally, it offers three Destination Chargers that deliver speeds of up to 11 kW. This combination caters to diverse charging requirements, enabling everything from quick top-ups to longer-term parking.
Performance of Tesla Superchargers
Tesla claims that using a Supercharger, a Model Y can achieve an impressive range of up to 275 km within just 15 minutes. The company has designed its charging network for an effortless experience, aiming for a “Plug In, Charge and Go” approach, backed by an uptime of 99.95 percent to reduce any downtime for users.
The Role of the Tesla App
The Tesla app is integral to the charging experience, allowing vehicle owners to locate stations, check the availability of chargers, monitor the status of their charging, receive updates, and handle payments all through a single platform. Moreover, users can precondition their vehicles prior to reaching the charging station.
Tesla’s Growing Presence in India
With the new Gurugram charging station, Tesla now operates three locations in India, which collectively provide 12 Superchargers and 10 Destination Chargers. The other charging stations can be found at Worldmark in Delhi and One BKC in Mumbai.
Educational Workshops
To help customers get acclimated to its charging technology, Tesla will organise interactive workshops at the Horizon Center charging station from December 17 to December 21. These sessions will showcase the functionality of Superchargers and Destination Chargers, as well as offer insights into electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions.
Availability of the Model Y
This expansion aligns with Tesla’s ongoing commitment to amplifying its footprint in India. Currently, the Model Y is available for purchase in the country, with prices starting from INR 59,89,000. Home charging support is also included within the ownership experience.
