Indian Organisations Embracing Artificial Intelligence

Indian organisations are rapidly integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into their operations, with many business leaders indicating a strategic overhaul in work structure, as highlighted in Microsoft’s 2025 Work Trend Index for India.

The report reveals that 93% of Indian leaders intend to implement AI agents to enhance workforce capabilities within the upcoming 12 to 18 months. Almost two-thirds of these leaders identified productivity improvements as a top priority, and 90% stated that this year is critical for re-evaluating core strategies and operations, representing the highest figure on a global scale.

Leading AI-Driven Transformation

Microsoft refers to India’s most progressive companies as “Frontier Firms”, which are redefining work by incorporating human–AI collaboration into their processes. The research indicates that 59% of leaders are already employing AI agents to automate workflows or business processes across entire teams.

During the report launch, Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India & South Asia, mentioned that the country is “firmly in its AI-first era”, with organisations integrating AI into routine operations to instigate transformation. He pointed out that AI is becoming a “thought partner”, enhancing creativity, speeding up decision-making, and transforming collaboration.

New Roles in an AI-Enabled Workspace

The findings imply that organisations are gearing up for new roles associated with AI integration. Approximately 92% of leaders reported that their companies are contemplating the establishment of AI-specific positions, while 57% anticipate teams will develop multi-agent systems to tackle complex tasks. Positions such as “AI Workflow Designers” and “Agent Bosses” are expected to emerge as organisational structures evolve.

Upskilling as a Fundamental Component of Change

Upskilling is recognised as vital for this transition, with 51% of leaders marking it as a priority for the next 12–18 months. Around 63% of managers believe that AI training will become an essential responsibility of the team within the next five years.

Microsoft underscored that 66% of employees and 80% of leaders in India are already acquainted with AI agents, indicating a high level of workforce readiness.

Global Growth in AI Adoption

The report also highlighted the global uptake of Microsoft’s AI tools. Microsoft 365 Copilot applications have exceeded 100 million monthly active users, and over 230,000 organisations are utilising Copilot Studio to create and deploy custom AI agents. In FY25, customers developed more than three million agents using Copilot Studio and SharePoint, with over one million created in the last quarter alone.

India’s Role in the AI-Driven Future

As per Microsoft, Indian enterprises are advancing beyond pilot projects to implement AI on a larger scale. With strong leadership commitment, workforce readiness, and increasing technical expertise, the report suggests that India is well-positioned to lead in shaping the future of AI-powered work.
