Truecaller Discontinues Call Recording Feature for iPhone Users

Truecaller will stop its call recording feature for iPhone users starting September 30, as reported by TechCrunch. This change is part of the company’s effort to concentrate on its essential spam-fighting tools, which include real-time caller identification via Live Caller ID and automatic spam call blocking.

Focus on Core Features

Nakul Kabra, Product Director iOS at Truecaller, explained that the decision to halt Call Recording for iPhone is primarily aimed at allowing the team to concentrate on leading features such as Live Caller ID and automatic spam blocking. He noted that the discontinuation is a strategic move for better delivery of these services.

Options for Existing Users

Understanding that many users may have recordings they wish to retain, the platform plans to keep the feature operational until September 30. Kabra mentioned that users can take this opportunity to download their recordings to their devices, share them through email or other messaging platforms, or switch to iCloud storage. By doing so, recordings will remain accessible via iCloud Drive even after the feature is disabled.

How Call Recording Worked on iPhone

Unlike Android, where call recording could be initiated via a dedicated button in Truecaller’s dialer, iPhone users had to start a recording line through the app and merge calls, or use a floating action button while utilising the native dialer. Both methods will be removed from iPhones after the end of September. The company has yet to clarify whether these changes will also extend to Android users.
