Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: An Impressive Innovation in Slim Design

Creating excitement for smartphones nowadays is straightforward. However, maintaining that enthusiasm for an extended period and delivering on promises at launch is a remarkable feat achieved by few. Samsung has successfully managed this with their Galaxy S25 Edge. After months of teasing, first at Unpacked in San Jose and then at MWC in Barcelona, the phone has finally launched. Now that it is in hands, here are the initial impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge needs no introduction. Its sleek appearance instantly identifies it as the slimmest device in the S-series. In earlier years, the trend was to slim down devices as much as possible, but achieving this now—when most smartphones house large batteries capable of lasting more than two days—is quite a risk. Nonetheless, based on aesthetics alone, Samsung has triumphed in this quest.

It is advised not to judge the Galaxy S25 Edge without holding it. The phone is remarkably slim and, despite its dimensions, feels incredibly light. Measuring a mere 5.8mm in thickness and weighing only 163g, it is anything but bulky. The experience of picking it up is indeed surprising.

Utilising Titanium to encase the device has significantly contributed to its light weight. The compact design of the Galaxy S25 Edge makes it convenient even for those without oversized pockets.

However, the phone does attract fingerprints quite readily, necessitating regular cleaning. This is likely due to a personal inclination, combined with a slight tendency towards being particular. Additionally, it can be a slippery device, leading to a few near drops during testing.

While the body of the Galaxy S25 Edge is striking, the display is equally impressive. Samsung excels in screen technology, showcasing its prowess with the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 6.7-inch QHD+ Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. The front panel is nearly devoid of bezels, aside from a hole-punch cutout for the front camera.

On the rear of the phone, there are two cameras—this provides a distinctive appearance. Most smartphones in the higher price segment feature three or more cameras, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge offers just two. The rationale is simple: the design does not allow room for a telephoto lens. A good telephoto lens requires depth, which is absent in this 5.8mm chassis, thus limiting the telephoto capabilities of the Galaxy S25 Edge. It’s a noticeable shortcoming, yet creating such a slim device requires certain sacrifices.

Another necessary trade-off was the battery size, which has been reduced to 3900mAh. Samsung is optimistic that with its system optimisations, the Galaxy S25 Edge will comfortably last a full day with regular use. Testing this assertion will be part of the review process. Additionally, complying with the trend seen in modern flagship devices, the Galaxy S25 Edge supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.

This slim smartphone operates using the same chipset as its bulkier counterparts in the S25 series, namely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. It is available in two configurations: 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. The unit provided for review is the 512GB variant.

Running on Android 15 with One UI 7 layered on top, Samsung has committed to providing seven years of OS and security updates, similar to the rest of the S25 series. The Edge also incorporates Galaxy AI features and Gemini integration, aligning it with the broader Samsung product lineup.

Currently, the outlook on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge leans positively. Admittedly, its starting price of ₹1,09,999 in India may be prohibitive for some, placing it in direct competition with other premium devices like the Pro and Ultra versions, including those from Samsung itself. Nonetheless, it appeals to a specific customer base seeking high-end features while avoiding the bulk of larger devices during daily use.

An in-depth testing phase will follow, evaluating whether the battery trade-off is genuinely a drawback or a strategic decision by Samsung. Stay tuned for the complete review of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
