Vivo Enters the Mixed Reality Market with Vivo Vision
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has officially launched into the mixed reality (MR) space with its new headset, Vivo Vision. This innovative wearable spatial computer was showcased at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025, where it was introduced by Hu Baishan, Vivo’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. The headset exhibits a design that closely resembles Apple’s Vision Pro, which debuted in 2023 and became available for consumers last year.
A New Player in Spatial Computing
Vivo Vision is designed to be a key component of the company’s Blue Technology Matrix, a strategy that harnesses artificial intelligence for practical applications in the real world. Although comprehensive specifications are yet to be released, preliminary images reveal a ski goggle-inspired design featuring a visor that houses various sensors to enable augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) capabilities.
Additionally, two sensors located at the bottom of the frame suggest that the headset may support hand and finger gesture tracking, akin to functionalities present in Apple’s Vision Pro. The headset also features a robust, thick headband to ensure a secure fit during use. However, it remains uncertain whether the device will operate independently or need to be connected to an external system.
A prototype unit was on display at the Vivo booth during the Boao Forum, and an official launch is anticipated in mid-2025. While the company has yet to disclose information about pricing or availability, it is expected that more details regarding the device’s specifications and operating system will emerge in the upcoming months.
Robotics Innovation and Future Expansion
In addition to unveiling the Vivo Vision, the company announced the establishment of a new Robotics Laboratory. Vivo intends to create the “brain” and “eyes” of robots by integrating its expertise in real-time spatial computing, large language models (LLMs), and imaging technologies. This robotics project will be closely linked to the skills developed through the Vivo Vision initiative.
Moreover, Vivo took the opportunity to hint at its forthcoming flagship smartphone, the Vivo X200 Ultra, while also emphasizing its continuous advancements in 6G technology.
