Advanced Machine Intelligence AMI Raises 1.03 Billion in Funding

Advanced Machine Intelligence AMI, the artificial intelligence startup established by Yann LeCun, previously the chief AI scientist at Meta and a Turing Award recipient, has secured $1.03 billion in funding, with a pre-money valuation set at $3.50 billion.

The company intends to utilise this capital to develop and commercialise sophisticated AI systems capable of thinking, planning, and comprehending real-world situations. The investment round was co-led by Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital, and Bezos Expeditions.

Additionally, various other backers participated in this funding round, including notable figures such as Tim and Rosemary Berners-Lee, Jim Breyer, Mark Cuban, Mark Leslie, Xavier Niel, and Eric Schmidt.

Advanced Machine Intelligence AMI is creating a new generation of AI systems designed to perceive their environment, possess enduring memory, reason and plan effectively, while ensuring they remain controllable and safe. The startup’s recent tweet highlighted their successful $1.03 billion funding round, which amounts to roughly €890 million, supported by investors who align with their vision.

How Will AMI Utilise the Funds?

According to reports from Reuters, LeCun aims to develop AI systems and models that enhance reasoning and planning capabilities, particularly in navigating complex real-world environments. He posits that existing AI models that rely solely on prediction are insufficient for creating genuinely intelligent AI agents capable of addressing intricate problems.

In addition, the startup plans to invest in computational resources and cultivate talent within key global AI centres. It is reported that AMI intends to expand its workforce in four primary locations: Paris, New York, Montreal, and Singapore.

With this expansion, Advanced Machine Intelligence AMI aims to provide its AI solutions to businesses managing intricate systems across various sectors, including manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, biomedical, and pharmaceuticals. LeCun expressed his ambition to be the leading supplier of intelligent systems.

He also envisions supporting consumer-oriented applications, such as domestic robots and even the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. LeCun noted the necessity for a domestic robot to possess a certain level of common sense to effectively navigate the physical world.

In addition to its principal investors, AMI enjoys support from other prominent companies such as NVIDIA, Samsung, Sea, Temasek, Toyota Ventures, Association Familiale Mulliez, Groupe Industriel Marcel Dassault, and Publicis Groupe.
