YouTube Premium Lite Subscription Now Available
YouTube has launched its YouTube Premium Lite subscription exclusively in the United States for the time being. This Lite variant is a more economical option, offered at $7.99 per month (approximately ₹700 per month), as opposed to the standard YouTube Premium priced at $13.99 per month (around ₹1,200 per month).
Affordable Access to YouTube Videos
YouTube Premium Lite represents the most budget-friendly method to watch videos on the platform without interruptions from ads. However, this subscription does include specific restrictions. Notably, the Lite version does not include YouTube Music, meaning users opting for this plan will not have the ability to stream music-free from advertisements. Additionally, the Lite subscription does not support background play, which implies that users cannot lock their screens or exit the YouTube app while viewing videos or listening to music. Furthermore, the option to download content for offline viewing is unavailable with Premium Lite.
Comparison of YouTube Premium and YouTube Premium Lite
While YouTube Premium Lite enables ad-free viewing of videos, it is important to note that YouTube states “most videos” will be free of ads, although viewers may still encounter advertisements when watching YouTube Shorts and music content.
Currently, the YouTube Premium Lite plan is solely available in the United States, with YouTube indicating plans to extend this offering to “more countries this year.”
YouTube Premium Pricing in India
For users in India, YouTube Premium is accessible starting at just ₹149 per month, with additional options for discounts and customisations, especially for students and family plans.
